About The Book
It’s 1972. Ziggy Stardust, hot pants, and platform boots are all the rage. Life is changing in Sarah’s small coal-mining town in Northern England, where the nineteen-year-old aspiring artist dares to dream of attending art college. Her spiky mother considers such ambitions lofty, so instead she leaves school early to earn her keep. But even working two jobs, Sarah barely makes the rent. Enter Tony Rivers… a tight-trousered American rock star touring the U.K. Sarah falls hard for the sexy musician and agrees to go back with him to ‘Tinseltown’ as his muse and album designer.
Red flags color their six-week courtship, but Sarah ignores the signs and books a one-way ticket to LA. Expecting a life of sunshine and The Beach Boys, instead, she is greeted by culture shock, smoggy skies and Tony’s dysfunctional family. Worse, the revelation that Tony is a disgraced teen idol with a cocaine habit and a penchant for underage groupies.
With no money, no way home, and no chance she’d admit her mother may have been right, Sarah must keep Tony sober and faithful. But at what cost?
About Judith Pickle
A British-born Angeleno, Judith resides in Redondo Beach, where she has been a teacher and commissioned artist for forty years. Her alumni include a senior designer for Hammitt Handbags, an art director at the Smithsonian, and a digital curator for esteemed artist Simon Bull.
Outside her visual art career, Judith works as a commissioned lead writer and co-creator, developing TV series concepts and film scripts. She is also an experienced speaker, most recently delivering a keynote at the TEDx Salon series in Manhattan Beach.
If asked, she would say that her most prized accomplishment was winning the David Sedaris Humorous Short Story Award while attending UCLA’s writing program.
Judith’s writing reflects her love of humor, curiosity, and the belief that every journey—no matter how unexpected—can lead to something wonderful.
